Mig Wire Holder for Tig or Oxy/Acet.
In one of his excellent welding videos Kent White uses MIG wire on a spool as a filler. I think I have even seen some wooden Mig wire holders used for this purpose in some shops. Here's my version of it. I used a 3/16" steel base (scrap) so it wouldn't move around on the table as I pulled the wire. I used a bent up angle bracket to create just the right amount of drag on the wire, and to keep the wire straight, and I used a 3/8" bolt through a 1/2" hole to hold the spool because this way the center of gravity of the spool is always lower than the axis and the spool resists free spinning.
So... thanks to Kent for the idea, and thanks to anyone else whose spool holder ideas I may have "borrowed" from. IMG_6165.jpg IMG_6166.jpg

nice idea
Thanks Kent/Bill
Bill do you find the wire is still curved when you take it off the roll even though it is going through the holes on the tabs?

If I pull down slightly as I'm pulling out the wire, it mostly straightens.
