Thumbs up English youth seeks knowledge. Some skills vaguely present

Hi All,
Looking forward to getting involved in the forum, I've got a lot to learn!

A bit of a historic vehicle nerd, I've been obsessed with 60s and earlier cars/motorcycles since I can remember. I'm a self taught mechanic who's now re training as a manual/cnc machinist and later hope to do something similar in coach building/metal shaping. For me its all about learning every part of the trade to find what I'm good at, and hopefully meeting good people along the way who can help with the rest!

I can do some basic fab work and can weld (Gas 3/10, tig 3/10, stick 4/10, mig 5/10).

Slowly working on setting up a shop where most things can be made, though with a heavy bent on 1910's to 1960's custom and bespoke built vehicles.

Most notable car experience, having a ride in the 1955 Le Mans winning (and catastrophe causing) D type Jaguar with none other than Norman Dewis himself. Recently returned from working as a mechanic on a month long, 7500km rally through Africa with 28 Classic cars(Read- hard bloody work!).

If anyone's building custom motorcycles in the UK and fancies some shiny CNC turning done, I'm your man! Currently my weekends only/micro hobby business.

Cheers!

Mac

Welcome to the forum Mac. I'm retired and still don't have enough time for all the projects. Enjoy the learning process, it will never stop.

Thanks Dan and David.
You're right David! I've been lucky to work with some real masters of the trade, yet are very humble about it as they say they too are learning every day.

Welcome mac! This forum is a wealth of information with a great bunch of folk only to willing to give advice and help. Don't be shy to ask
I love the D-Type connection - driven a few myself as I did my apprenticeship with Lynx Engineering and then worked for CKL Developments, where I ended up doing quite a lot of historic crash repair. For my sins, I've crash repaired CUT 7 twice! Happy days 😊

Hi Mac, welcome to the site, great to see young blood coming in here, quite a few Brits here as well, sounds like you need to get into a few small shops shadowing a tradesman. Good Luck.
