Hi Mike,

I have a few torches, and use whatever is handy, Smith, Victor, Meco, pistol torch, etc. It may depend on what needs to be welded- mild steel, 4130, stainless, copper, aluminum sheet or castings, bronze, cast iron etc etc.

A few weeks ago a workshop attendee brought in his father's old Swiss torch from back in his tool and diemaking days - 1910-1960. I rebuilt it after class that night and we used it for the next three days. It welded aluminum sheet pretty well, though I have no idea who made that torch. It has a number "192" on it but no other I.D.

L to R: Modified Meco N Midget with titanium neck and extended mixing chamber, Smith AW1, Victor J27 with WW2 aviation tip, old unk. model from Switzerland, 1920? (All hose fittings are size A, the small aviation-size welding torch fitting.)
