Default King Cobra Aluminum Rebody

I ran across this series of photos showing a complete aluminum rebody of an ex-Bondurant Shelby King Cobra Sports Racer by Legendary Motorcars in Canada:

Shows the wood model, buck, and panel construction.

Tom,

Thanks for the link. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. Inspiring.

Interesting to look at this site and so many others; I look beyond the featured automobile and see just simple metalshaping equipment. In this shop there appears to be a Northridge planishing hammer, a nondescript english wheel with a light duty frame, a deepthroat light duty shrinker, a brake, a Beverly shear and a Pullmax. They build on wooden bucks with flat paper patterns.

Go on Google, type in "metalshaping" and then select "images" in the upper left of the screen and look at the photos; follow the links and you will see this same scenario repeated maybe 100 times across many countries. Rudimentary equipment, traditional methods, fantastic build diaries of fantastic projects by apparently highly skilled craftsmen.

Default King Cobra

Thanks a lot Tom:

I haven't seen this car since 1965 when I worked for Shelby. If you look at the album again at pick. # 14 top left and bottom center, that is Bob Bondurant in the car. They were also driven by Dave McDonald and Ken Miles. I had to clean them up when they got back from the track before the mechanics would start tearing them apart for rebuild.
