Mr fixit
In deciding whether to take the time to strip the interior, ask yourself how disappointed you would be if it started peeling. If that wouldn't bother you so much then go ahead and take the gamble. I was restoring an old airplane and sandblasted the steel tubing and promptly primed it with an approved epoxy primer. Not know that primer was permeable, I elected to delay the top coats. The tubing rusted beneath the primer and I had to totally strip, blast, prime, and top coat it, all of which was three times as much work as the first job. I'll never, ever delay top coating again.
