Default Ali framed car?

Evening all.
Does anyone know if there's ever been a car which has had its structure/frame made from Ali as well as it's panel work?

Cheers buddy. I was wondering how long it would take for that one to be mentioned.
Do you know of any others?

McLaren M5 had a riveted monocoque tub of aluminum alloys.
Porsche made a few 910 cars with aluminum space frames.
Honda made some Acura models with aluminum chassis and body panels.
Larry Ellison asked the Polish Cobra company to make an all-aluminum Cobra. I think that story is on the internet someplace.
The new 2015 Ford F150 is planned to have aluminum body panels, but will retain the steel frame.
The Tesla has an aluminum chassis and many body panels of aluminum.
In 1983 ALCOA and Audi teamed up to make both chassis and body from aluminum, and I think that program may still be ongoing.

There must be some more out there....

I recall a Canadian rod in Street Rodder back in the 70's that has the chassis rails made from 4x4 aluminum. Looked a bit light to me but heck, it was in Street Rodder so it must have been world class

I believe the American Bobsy racing cars had an Aluminium chassis/frame work, maybe Google them!!
A friend got to drive a special Porsche factory "Bergrennen" (might have spelt that wrong) hill climb car which had an alloy frame.
The thing that stuck most in his mind was a very large guage on the dash board with the needle seemingly stuck at a high pressure,
When he enquired as to what the guage was measuring and as to wether it was stuck or broken , the Engineer told him it was the chassis Nitrogen pressure guage and that the tubular chassis was under pressure to stiffen it.
He added"If zee needle drops to zero, halt zee car .Zee chassis is cracked!!"

Alfa Romeo T33 racecar -- some had frames cast in aluminum and I restored one that was cast in magnesium.
There is some engineering information out there on the Panoz (Atlanta, Georgia) production aluminum frame if you search around. Great car with a great chassis that worked well for road and racing.

WOAH!!
Thanks guys the info is much appreciated.
trentesept - the nitrogen idea is an intriguing one.

So how about a steel chassis and Ali frame. Has anyone found a way to connect them sensibly?

We are going to be starting an exciting project soon and I'm just trying to gather as much info as possible really.

Jaguar made the lightweight E-type body and engine block in aluminium, but I think the space-frame was still steel.

I heard last week that Jaguar are making some new cars at the moment, using unused chassis numbers from the original build!

Cheers Charlie
