I welded up the extension and will finish the support bracket tomorrow. I'm not going to trim and shape the opening in front until I have the fender modified and fitted up.Name: 67.jpg

Question: Will you have to move the door hinges/cowl forward to extend the doors? Or how will you get around that? Sorry if I'm jumping way ahead, just been working it in my head and am anxious to see how you resolve that issue.

Greg
You're not jumping that far ahead, Greg. That's the next step after the rockers are done. I really, REALLY don't want to go to suicide doors but I might have to. The way these doors open is similar to how yours open on the 55. They swing outward. Outside the fender. The hinges are already pretty long as is and the pivot point of the hinge has to be ahead of the leading edge of the door. Didn't you say once that you use CAD or a similar design program? Maybe you can help me figure this out. I'm not going to move the cowl. That would throw off a lot of the proportioning that I spent so much time on. If you look at the Photoshop rendering on page 1 you can see that although the wrap around windshield comes back into the door area, the front face of the windshield is in the original location.

I finished off the extension support bracket and welded that in today. I'm almost done on the left side. I just need to close up that little window at the bottom of the cowl and it's on to the other side.Name: 69.jpg

Cool, sounds simpler than what I was thinking. You are correct, would be quite simple to lay it out in Catia. I just need some pics and pretty basic dimensions. When finished I can make a short video and take some screen shots to insure we are on the same page. Let me know.

Moving on to the right rocker, the area by the rear fender is in a little worse shape than the other side was so I am replacing more of the quarter panel. First I cut up some 18 ga and I wheeled the panel a little to get a tiny bit of crown, then I tipped the flange that goes inward toward the inner quarter. I used the stretcher to stretch the flange which started giving me the vertical contour to match the body. It's very close to the right shape right now. I'll start smoothing it out and getting an exact fit next.Name: 75.jpg

I need some help figuring out a door skin method. If any of you have made door skins and can offer some advice, I'd really appreciate the input.

Please check the Advanced Questions section and see the thread "Making a Door Skin, Need Advice"

I'll try to add a direct link here.

I had a little time this morning to rough in the rest of the inner quarter. Looks OK and fits well. I can't trim it up until the rocker panel is installed.

The outer rocker and rusted area of the quarter on the right side are removed and the inner is the same as the left side. Some surface rust but still solid and strong. floor braces are in good shape too so I'll keep them and coat them with Chassis Saver.
