I have a ghetto spot weld clamp hack for you. Find the oldest POS Vice Grip you've got. Get an old 5/8 open end wrench. Cut the end off the wrench and weld it to one of the jaws. Then cut a small piece of 3/16 plate and weld that to the other jaw. Next, get a copper 1/2" plumbing coupling and flatten it out a little in the vice and pound it onto the 3/16 plate. Fast, easy and works great.Name: 52.jpg

Not much got done today. I got the areas that will be closed up after welding painted with Chassis Saver and punched the holes for the spot welds. I was sidetracked fixing a problem with my shrinker so I didn't get to welding up the rocker today.Name: 55.jpg

Since I painted the inside of the rockers prior to welding them up, The spot weld areas need to be cleaned up so I can get a good weld. I use a cut off 5/16" drill bit with a flat cutting tip. I can take off the paint without messing up the inner panel.Name: 57.jpg

I got most of the left rocker welded up. The rear cut-away where the fender tucks in to the rocker is a little tricky but it's done. I think I spent the most time getting the door jamb to merge correctly into the rocker but I'm satisfied with the fit. When I bent the rocker I paid particular attention the the size and shape of the bends so this would go together right and it was worth the extra effort.Name: 60.jpg

I still need to make the panels to box in the extended front of the rocker. That's next. Looks like I need to do a little patch work on the lower part of the cowl, too.Name: 62.jpg

I made the template for the extension of the inner rockers and transferred it to some sheet metal. Just as I was ready to cut, It just didn't look right so I checked and it's not. I didn't have enough time today to correct it so I'll try again tomorrow.Name: 64.jpg

OK, I got this inner extension figured out. I just made it less complex. Simple is always better. It fits properly and isn't over-engineered. It creates a strong boxed area and there will be a support bracket coming from the front body mount bracket out to the inner rocker extension. This is sort of mundane work but the foundation needs to be strong before I can build on it.Name: 64.jpg

Looking good Jack! Keep the pics and updates coming. Doesn't look mundane from here...loving to see your engineering at work!!

Question: Will you have to move the door hinges/cowl forward to extend the doors? Or how will you get around that? Sorry if I'm jumping way ahead, just been working it in my head and am anxious to see how you resolve that issue.
