Another U.K. Member
Just a quick hello, and introduction.
I've been in the restoration game for a while now, and I'm based in deepest East Sussex in the U.K. I was pleased to see David Gardiner is on here, having recently enjoyed his excellent DVD (great value). The reason for signing up tonight is that I've been asked to panel up a special which was started in 1959, and last worked on in '62. Nearly fifty years later, my customer is picking up from where the last owner left off. I've been working on it for a couple of months-worth of weekends now, arriving at the shape we're probably run with. It should be a good 'fun' project, and will allow me to get a bit creative with some sheet metal, and a nice change from my day-to-day, which is the restoration of early Porsche 911 bodyshells. I've got some sheet metal gear including one home fabricated wheel and one small Keetona cast wheel (bought today in fact). Anyway, enough from me, I'm off to have a look around . Barry Perhaps tomorrow (when I'm awake!) I'll post some pics of the day job, plus the Special ..... |

Hello Barry, Glad you liked the DVD. I used to have a keetona wheel. My employee James has one at home. very nice machines but the one I had was let down by the wheels I had with it. I have built a number of specials over the years. finished and MG special a while ago, its on here somewhere.
David

Hi David, great to hear from you.
The Keetona is an odd little thing, and I was going to mod it (and my current fabricated one) to take a set of Justin Lee Baker's anvils, and use the top wheel that comes with the set for the Keetona (assuming I can make it fit). The idea being is that the anvils can be shared between the wheels, which will be in two workshops a few miles apart. It's only me using them though, so it shouldn't be too much of a bother to move the anvils as needed. I see this baby Keetona as something of a stop-gap though, as I'm very much on the lookout for a full sized cast wheel to either buy up and running, or to restore. At £50 (yes fifty), this one had to be bought though, even if it is coming out of a farmyard (and looks it as well). So if you hear of a full, or near full sized wheel, I'd be very interested . Off to bed now, long week as I've been visiting the chaps at Eckold U.K. on their wheeling course .... |

Barry, welcome and thanks for the introduction. Davids DVD is a very good one, you can learn a lot from it. You will find yourself watching it many times.
