I have used Durham's Rockite (hardware store) for that. Adding fibers or fiberglas cloth is helpful for keeping it together on long forms. Thin dowel or aluminum helps keep stiffness on skinny parts. Masking tape on orig, and tape dams to hold the goo until it sets up....

Wow you guys are great!
So yes its really going to be a buck, a "quick buck" as its not in my workshop where i can take time to make one from MDF etc. You got me thinking now. Even a few sticks of these may be enough. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARGO-QUIKST...-/170699425913

Bart,
Try making some profiles from 3mm MDF, Take a profile every 100mm number them according to the length you need. Make a few along the length. You can use aviation snips to cut and to finesse the lines, clean up with some sandpaper.

Hello Bart.
I'VE been following this thread and wonder as others are you going to use this to make buck or a hammer form? If it is for a buck then maybe you could cover the part with cling film and use expanding foam to give you an imprint. The resulting casting could then cut into sections allowing transfer to a positive buck. Cheers drib (dave) |
