Default Duesenberg taper tail clone

I'm new to the forum and I figured I would put up some pictures of my latest dream / project. I will be building a clone of the Duesy Taper Tail, I have the chassis pretty much mocked up at this point, it has a 142" wheelbase, straight 8 Buick, 5 spd and Columbia 2 speed rear. I have the body buck that I will be using as well as an existing cowl that will need modifications. It will need to be lengthened at the A pillar and rolled over to make it into a roadster type cowl. This will be the first step to get the cowl where it needs to be. I do have door skins and the hood. I will have to form the back of the body, I do have some ideas that might work. I hope that I can make this dream into a reality.
Thanks for looking.

Default duesy clone

Pat: I am currently building two 34 Packard boattail speedster bodies on the original chassis. The is in the paint shop right now and the other is going to be skinned in the next couple months. I used the original front fenders and the hood after extending it one foot and widening it 6". The rest is built from scratch from a design I thought up. The one I am painting now has a straight cowl and regular doors and has pontoon rear fenders. The other has a raked cowl and suicide doors and will have the old style fenders modified. I have around 2500 hrs in this car so it doesn't happen over night. I wish you the best with your project and if you need some encouragement just PM me.

Default Duesenberg Taper Tail Clone

Finally had a chance to get in the shop and work on my project. I began fitting the Oldsmobile Viking cowl to the speedster wood frame. I had to pie cut the top of the cowl on both sides to bring the sides closer to the wood, I'm pretty happy with the results. I am going to have to add some wood filler pieces to fit the sheetmetal. The next steps will be to start to form the upper cowl that rolls into the dash, not exactly sure how I am going to do that but that is what makes it fun. Any ideas from anyone? I will also have to make the door jamb lips and weld them to the sides of the exisiting cowl. Attached are a few pictures.

Pat, that is a magnificent car you are attempting to clone. Are the chassis, buck, and existing body parts from the Dusey or the Olds Viking. What are the doors from?

The Buick engine will look great.

Are you planning on fabricating the body (welding together a bunch of found pieces), or shaping them from scratch.

I think if I were going to build that and had the bucks, I would scratch build the body out of aluminum. Or at least the boattail.

Default Duesenberg Taper Tail Clone

Per, Kerry,
Thanks for the comments.
The chassis is a '33 Buick 50 series lengthened to 142" wheelbase, the Buick straight eight is a 263 Cu. In from 1950 and it will most likely be dual carb or dual throttle body fuel injection. The front suspension is '33 Buick modified to accept Ford F100 front brakes, it has a BW T5 5 Speed and a Ford Columbia Two speed rear. The cowl was from an Olds Viking, 1929-1931. The doors are Auburn Speedster as well as the wood buck. I will have to lengthen the wood buck behind the doors to make up for the wheelbase. I am undecided about the boat tail, I do have a 1942-46 Hudson hood that might be used to create the boat tail or I may try and create it from scratch using 19 ga. steel. I have the original Duesenberg hood and most of the pieces to finish the car. Time is the problem these days! Something is always keeping me out of the shop. I will try and keep on track and report my progress.
Suggestions are always welcome.
Pat
