A panel beater friend of mine who is in his early fifties was saying in his early panel days they had "sticks" of aspestos and would use cheese graters to grate it and add it to bog.

Whats in filler
As far as I know Body filler is made up of polyester resin, talc and colouring. The new lightweights add plastic balls to the mix .001 dia.
This is the way it's been made up for years. The best way to remove old filler is to heat it up with a torch or a heat gun and us a old flat screwdriver to dig it out. Much better than grinding or? John Poole

asbestos was used by various companies in filler up until sometime in the 1970's-but not only used in filler.can be found in seam sealers, caulking etc and even in the paint.i'm old enough to not particularily worry about contact with small amounts-but its in the wiring loom, insulation, exhaust, heat shields etc in most 'old' classic cars[never mind brakes, clutch, gaskets etc.]
