Default Forming classes

I'm in the process of restoring a '53 Jaguar. I'm approaching the sheet metal fabrication stage and have quickly discovered those types of skills are not easy to find. I've done some simple work, but this project is considerably above my current skill level. I have most of the equipment (brake, shrinker/stretcher, English wheel, etc.), but having them, and being able to use them, on these complex shapes is quite a bit different proposition. I'm a big fan of Lazze, and tried to sign up for one of his classes, but he filled up the whole year in about an hour. Are there other classes, similar to his, that anyone might recommend?

Pat Bruebaker (Patman) will be doing a class prior to the Route56 Gathering in early May. Actually, what I tell new folks is that typically you don't know what you don't know. The best thing you can do would be to attend an event and get hands on with all different kinds of equiptment and insight from many people. And for the typical $20-30/day donation plus your travel expenses, it's the best bang for your buck.

Default More suggestions

Ron Covell: http://www.covell.biz/workshops

I can vouch for Covell's workshop, I took his 2 day advanced metalshaping workshop a few years back, and it was very worthwhile. Not hands-on due to class size but extremely informative.

I cannot vouch personally for this next suggestion, but this guy is legendary, and a few legends have attended his very small seminars. It's also hands-on:

Time and financing permitting I would love to go to one of Fay's seminars someday.

We still hold three day intensive classes if people are interested, and we have a meet every summer you are welcome to attend. Look for updates on DutchMeet 17 when pop and I set a date.

Wray Schelin is your man for Jaguar panels. He's got most of the bucks and has been doing 120-150 panels for 40 years. www.proshaper.com

........

Got to thinking about the time before workshops and metal classes ......
And driving very long hours to see one of the "old men" here in Kalifornia.....
.... IF you were allowed in ....

I'd like to spend a few days with Emil Diedt, and see his pattern work for casting windshield pillars, his coach developing work, the way he designed his door hinges, and the way he worked his lines....
Phil Remington .... just to ask him questions, a long interview of sorts, about his time on the GT program ...
And to see how Jack Hagemann got his metal so perfect that it went straight to deep red paint - without primer. His work was so clean, so even, so nice ...

And I guess the East Coast had their retinue of old metal guys from Brewster, Bell, Grumman and so on ..... but I only heard about the Kalifornia guys ......

it would be nice to take a class from ..... that old guy welding Halibrand quickchange units, in the back of Rodeck, over in Paso ... heard he was an old metalman on Indy cars ...... yeah, the new guys didn't even know who he was .... Q.B. Epperly .....
..... I'd like to take a class .....
