I use WD40 and a gray scotchbrite pad to keep the surface run off my machines. Spray it on and let it soak for a few minutes scrub and wipe.

Rust off a shear bed
I use WD40 and a red scotch brite, just a little more agressive that grey.
Remove rust, then wipe off and respray with WD, keeps the rust at bay A shear bed does not have to be dead nuts flat. Your Pal, Gary

I usually use MetalPrep 79 or etching wheel cleaner (for raw or machined Aluminum wheels) to wipe the surface rust off, followed by a ScotchBrite pad with some transmission fluid or WD40.

I know its off topic but I have got to say I love that drill press!. I use WD 40 and green scotchbright but being in England (the land of non stop rain) and a few hundred yards from the sea makes it hard to keep things that way for long.
