Thanks Alden and Tom, 150s C &D types were an influence in the styling of my project and your buck is the highest qualty! I had started with a concept that progressed from sketches of possible shapes and flow. Initially built full scale in foam. That foam lamination, attachment and shaping went very quickly, only a few weeks. In trying to fine tune that shape I eventually removed to much material from front fender over the tire. I was able to get the 100lbs of clay used, 50 on front fender and 50 the rest of the car. Most of the foam has a very thin layer of clay. The clay model and the buck are amazingly close in shape, as they should be. The tight rib spacing, while a little difficult to work with, definately forces me to get the contours and flow of the model.

Another compromise I had to incorporate in the building of this wooden buck was that it needed to be movable and solid enough to be transported in a trailer, bouncing around on Michigan roads . And as it has turned out my buck has about 800 miles of accumulated travel so far, along with numerous loadings and unloaded for some shows.

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

Mike, you've put quite a bit of work into your buck, and this view right here shows all that work is paying off! Looking good!

Here are some pics showing another feature of my rib only buck. Select ribs are taken out by removing just few screws. These ribs now are used as hammerforms to make support/attaching structure for the new much wider body.0501151132a.jpg

The support panels will have cutouts to provide access for wiring and general lightening.

I needed a mounting point for the rear of body. No problem, remove 2 screws to get the appropriate rib and voila instant hammer form.
