Default Cherry Blossom

I don't know if you could call it metal shaping, per se, but it was the first project that really got me interested in learning more about shrinking, stretching and shaping.

On a whim, more or less, I applied to a call for artists to decorate fiberglass "cherry blossoms" as part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC in 2019 by offering to build one out of metal. When they accepted, I then had to figure out how I was going to do it, AND finish it in 2 weeks.

Anyway, here's a few pics.

All steel - pencil rod and 22g (IIRC) cold rolled; wire wheeled, then clear semi gloss (may have even been satin) powder coat.

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

Thanks all! I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It was my first experience with heat n beat - unplanned, as the heat was the tack welds vs. the small mass of each triangle. Was pretty eye opening (metal is clay!!!)

I like that much better than all the fiberglass being blinged out nowadays. Very cool.
