Default Hello from Illinois

Hi all, I'm Erick. I'm about 2 hours west of Chicago. I came to this site from the HAMB. I'm a mechanic at a state-run shop. Given the current political climate here (zero funding), we end up doing a lot of nonstandard repairs on vehicles, mostly involving rust repair, to try to milk a few more years out of them. I have become the fab guy at work, not because I'm that good as much as because I suck the least. I take pride in my work and want it to look as good as possible. I've replaced a lot of floor pans, and even though no one will ever see them, I want them to look good. I was a carpenter for a number of years until the housing market took a dive. I got pretty good at manipulating wood. Now I want to add another skill to the toolbox, and this seems to be the place to learn.

Welcome Erick

A wood working back ground is a plus, as bucks and hammer forms are commonly made from wood.
Have a look around and use the search feature, then if you have questions feel free to ask questions.
