I am so stunned and shocked at the news. I loved watching Ken's progress with his work and his posts on every subject- his love for his family, metalwork and his appreciation for everything he had the opportunity to do. I spoke to him on the phone a couple of times while he was working on his vase, and he was just a wonderful soul.
My deep sympathy for his family and friends. A very great loss. Last edited by Coppretta; 07-31-2011 at 01:29 PM. |

I just got home from up north to here such tragic news.
Ken was such a great guy. Not only was he skilled but he gave of himself to every new shaper that came to his meets. He always had a good story to share and we had alot of laughs. I'm still in shock over this. Ken, you will be dearly missed by myself and I'm sure by anyone who's met you and by all the people you've touched on line as well. |

I am devastated. Ken had a way to make people feel instantly at ease and welcome. He was authoritative without being overbearing. And he was just a great human being.
I first met Ken a couple of years ago at one of his earlier Ontario Metalmeets. I was apprehensive, as I new nothing about metalshaping, and did not know anyone in the Ontario gang. Yet Ken welcomed me, showed me how to tuck shrink with a hammer and bag, and then smooth and stretch on his english wheel. Before I knew it, I had shaped 1/4 of a basketball out of 18 ga sheetmetal under his tutelage as part of his project for beginners over the weekend. That weekend at Ken's was the inspiration for building my own wheel, and getting more involved with metal shaping. In the years since, I visited Ken on several occasions, bringing along metalshaping projects that had me stymied. Ken was always willing to lend advice or tools, and I will always be indebted to him. I lost a teacher and a friend, and I will miss him dearly. Ian Last edited by idickers; 07-31-2011 at 04:10 PM. |

I lost a great friend and teacher. I would try to make it to Ken's every other Sunday and he would help me with my projects. We would shoot the breeze half the afternoon and motivate each other with our projects. I will miss him alot.
His sister emailed me to tell me they will cremate him and then plan a celebration/memorial at a later date. My heart goes out to Ken's family and friends.
