I had an accident this morning and messed myself up a little. I was going to go to the store and got in my truck. We had a pretty windy rain storm earlier and a bunch of leaves and small branches fell on my truck so I stepped one foot out of the truck so I could reach the branches on the windshield and clear them off. Well, I forgot that I had already put it in reverse and the truck started backing up. The front tire caught my foot and it didn't slow down.
Now it's pulling me out and I can't reach the shifter or ignition switch. I laid down so I didn't get my other leg tangled up in the truck and started trying to pull my leg out to the side because by now the tire was past my ankle and starting up my lower leg. I managed to get out and the truck was now freewheeling toward the garage. I tried to jump up and catch it before it hit but couldn't get there in time. All I could think of was that the Cadillac is on stands only 2 feet inside that thin aluminum door. It was now moving fast enough that it would have gone through that door like it was paper and knocked the Cad off the stands destroying years of metalwork. Fortunately it caught the brick wall and door framing first. It still blew through the door but the door didn't fall. Caddy was not hurt. Everything that you just read happened in less than 10 seconds. I swear I do not remember putting the truck in reverse. That's because I was thinking about what I needed from the store and not what I was doing at the moment. I went to the Hospital ER and had some Xrays done and to add insult to injury I had to describe what happened to about a half dozen nurses and a couple doctors. They must have gathered that I was in more shame than pain and told me that it's a common occurrence to be injured and even killed by your own vehicle. The stories were mainly about people in fast food drive throughs that drop loose change when trying to hand it to the attendant. they open the door and hang out trying to retrieve the coins and roll forward into those steel poles pushing the door shut on their arms or upper bodies. Anyway, this is what goofy old retired people do all day. I'm OK, No broken bones or fractures. No torn muscle tissue. Some heavy abrasions on my calf from pulling really hard to avoid having the tire go any further up my leg. If you apply enough pressure, denim works like 80 grit sandpaper. My foot and ankle are sore but I can walk on it. The lesson is simple: Pay attention.

Good to hear you survived Jack,
Its not just Goofy old retired people that do that. My 33 year old Daughter has reversed into my Garage Door once from the inside and once from the outside and the missus reversed her car right through hers and under the buckled up Door with the car ending up on the outside. Good to hear the Caddy is fine

Close call. Good thing you didn't get a break.
Thanks for the wake up call. I find myself being more careless as time goes by. |

Wow. So glad to hear you escaped mostly unscathed considering the circumstances. Maybe the good karma from your efforts to post this excellent thread paid off. Caddy is safe and I have a feeling you know someone who can make the truck look good as new.
Again, happy you were not seriously injured. Chuck

Glad to hear you are ok, Jack. There's a lot more invested in you than any vehicle. Things are just things.
