Bulkhead and inner wings
Progress has been slow, but the bulkhead is pretty much complete.
I've also started the passenger side inner wing. The goal is to get all the mounted flanges done for the outer body panels. I've started to fab the inner panel. read more here

Mocking up the bonnet
The driver's side inner wing is nearly done.
I ran out of gas and it was a Sunday, so I started to mock-up the bonnet. I cut up a very rusty Austin bonnet to see if I could use the nose section. Nope. Apart from it having specs of light shining through it, it was too tall and the wrong shape. So I'll start by making the internal framework and slam panel. I'll then have to learn how to make a bonnet.... How hard can it be??? I guess making dumb rookie mistakes is how loads of people learn? - I sure hope so I've never done much work on sheet metal - mostly chassis work until now. So this metal shaping game is proving itself to be a long slow learning curve. At least my second inner wing was better than the first - not good, just better. As you can see, my wire-frame has taken a few hits. It still has it's uses, but is in need of replacement. read more

Grill and slam panel
I got distracted from making the bonnet into making the grill.
I started with the slam panel I then moved onto the grills back panel. I want all the air to be directed into the radiator a bit like the front of a rocket car. There's still plenty left to do before it's even close to the shape I want and definitely not the 2 weeks complete rest I should be on. read more here

Slow progress
I've not done so much recently as I haven't been up to it. What I have done is fairly visual though.
I did set fire to one of the air filters with my oxy torch. Less than 3 seconds and it was just brown dust. Luckily, they're just £6 from China. The 5mm steel bars represent the bonnet profile. I'm thinking about dropping the bonnet top about 1" at the front. The limiting factor is the other half of the bonnet catch (I could modify the catch release lever and sink the whole assemble if necessary). There are 3 bars, the short one on the bonnet side represents the bonnet side panel. The edges of the bonnet will sweep down at the front similar to a '37 Chevy, this may make the bonnet look taller at the front than rear - hence the planned increase in tapper. The plan is to make 3 bonnet strengthening braces, stretch paper and duct tape between them and make a final judgement then. The MG TF bonnet catch is in and working and I've started the curved vertical support bar for the horizontal grille bars / slam panel. There's 3 more bracing pieces (not shown). This vertical bar may get move curve. Once I'm happier with the shape of everything together, there will be a couple weekends just getting things to fit better, with less heat distortion. As always, I'll have to learn how to straighten heat warping in the process. Youtube here we come...... More here:

Unemployed - so slow progress
I've been busy with the dimple die press.
The goal was to have a framework strong enough, I could bend the bonnet skin around. I also wanted a theme that was a cross between a Lancaster bomber and steam punk. At last count there was 108 dimple die holes. Once finished, there will be close to 140. Hopefully, it will self open on BMW e46 gas ram hinges. I messed up the rear hinge mounts a little, as they join together with a piece of 25mm box. Unfortunately, it was too high and poke out through the bonnet sides, so I had to disassemble all the steel work you see here and cut up the bulkhead. In the middle of which I had to have eye surgery to have a bit of shattered cutting disk removed. At over 3Kg, it's not light, but it opens really quick with even just one ram. There's still a couple weekends work left in it, but it's getting closer. read more here
