Default Help direction on patch panel

Looking for some help or direction on the best way to replace the rusted section of the lower left rear quarter on my RX3. I have a bead roller, bag, hammers, brake, shrinking disc in my arsenal.

Need more info.

If you are asking about the bottom of the trunk, this may be a solution.

No not the floor pan the left or driver side lower quarter has some rot and its a compound curve. I will take better pics tonight. Not sure if I should create several patches or recreate the entire bottom and method to go after it.

Ryan, Its a pretty easy panel to make, just make a paper pattern for a template. Make good use of your sandbag to rough out the shape and use your bead roller for tipping the flanges on the bottom. Then planish till smooth.

Sounds like a pretty good recipe.

This is where I'm at now. Having some difficulty in getting the back section to shrink or bowl to the correct shape. Any suggestions?

Ryan ..
it simply blocked the wrong way
once you have your blank cut (cut it about 2 inches bigger than you need all the way around)

mark off you pattern where the radius is at the bottom then block and shrink that section (on the wooden stump) all the way along the bottom and mainly at the back of the panel where it curls around to the rear panel,(put big tuks there) then simply work your way up towards the top with less blocking right up to the edge simply to fill in the rest.
Smooth thing off either by hand or on a wheeling machine. do not remove the old panel till you have made the new one that way you can use it as a guide to see where the panel needs to be shaped, once the panel fits good simply cut the excess off....then turn the first bottom flange inwards either with a bead roller or by hand using a pair of pliers and the second flange down adjust and planish

Well here is my first attempt. I'm going to work on a new panel as I have over stretched this panel in a few places. I'm still trying to figure out how you use the panel to help define the lines of the panel.

So in a profile view there is a gentle radius at the top moving to a .12 radius 90 , then a flat to the 90 pinch weld. What should be formed first. The gentle profile curve and compound curve torwards the back end corner of the car or should I start wit the radius'd 90 in the middle? Or will I not be able to get the compound curve in if I do that?

Do not put any flanges or angles prior to get the whole shape right .
in another words make sure that the panel you are making seats on top of the old one perfectly, meaning the old panel will be your buck . Because of the old lower flange been in the way you might have to check the bottom curve with profile gauges
