Big day at the shop today.....my (our) first introduction to working with a power hammer! It arrived today (earlier than expected) we unpacked it and now the electrician is wiring up the outlet for where we needed. Hopefully in a half hour or so I can start testing it out on some scraps (or making scrap!ha)

Congrats Dane. From what I see of your work, you deserve the help.

Dane
I just spent the last few days reading all of this topic. Really great work and talent. Thanks for taking the time to show the results of your work. One question I have is: what type of cutter did you use to open up the spot welds? It looks like maybe a Blair type. I really have a problem avoiding cutting through both layers of metal. Maybe its my age and poor eyesight.

Thank you guys for the compliments, really appreciate it!

Phil,

You are correct in the Blair style spot weld cutter bits. I use the reversible (double ended) ones. Also have what I refer to as a Spitznagel style, air drill with a flat ended carbide drill bit. This you have to have access to the backside. However, 95% of the time I’ll just use the Blair bits. The main thing is to center it in the spot weld and go through slow (you typically should see a “puff” of rust / dust pop up the instant you go through the first layer.

It's a bit of an art to cutting spot welds juuust right.
Makes the diff, tho.
Blair makes good cutters.

A dab of Westlube in the cut does not hurt ...

Default Updates

I see Dane hasn't been around since April. Sure would like to see how this one has progressed.

Best,
Kelly

Me too!🤣

Sorry guys….I’m still here, I’ve just been lacking badly on the updates.

1. It hasn’t been a lot of exciting stuff.
2. I was actually off of the project for two months as I was really swamped with other work.
3. Summer has been busy in terms of personal life, not much time to sit down and create posts / updates.
4. The biggest…I have never figured out how to size, edit and most importantly upload a useable photo from my iPhone to the forum. So it’s a real hassle for me to send to my computer, resize and upload from there.

Sorry, I’ll try to get better and do a photo update sometime in the nearish future.

You could try an APP like image size to edit photos on the phone. You can crop photos using the native Iphone app though difficult to get a specific size.
