Hi Guys! With everything that has been going on over the past few years it has been a challenge to find time to work on R2 let alone keep this build thread updated. A little while ago a good friend had the thought that if he took R2 off my hands it would get done. So that's how it went.
In an effort to save time, rather than build a tube chassis he insisted we use a C5 Corvette donor chassis. So.. once the chassis and body were married we fabricated engine and transaxle mounts behind the cab. With the powerplant installed the exhaust system could be routed and mocked up. The body received numerous cosmetic changes including a front and rear fascia redesign, re-arching the rear quarter features and reconfiguring the door openings by moving the B Pillar rearward and lengthening the doors approximately 6". Reinstalling the exterior sheet metal and locating all the components within the front storage and interior compartments. Preparations being made to lift R2's LS1/G50 engine/transaxle back into place for the nth time to mock up cooling, power steering and HVAC lines. Final metal finishing underway and addressing a few interior deails before R2 heads into bodywork and paint. The candle is burning from both ends to get this project completed. Once the door glass tracks are set the doors will get skinned, installed and gapped. We'll be using the original skins that were made, but had to be extended by 6" due to the reconfiguration of the body. Thanks for looking.

Thank you for checking out our build.
Here's the most recent photo update. We're into blocking the body after shooting it with a few coats of high build 2k primer.

One of the original ideation sketches for R2. At the time it was based on a 'what if' concept.. as in what if we built 'the next one'.

Hi Everyone! As R2's build draws to a close I'd like to share some photos of R2's build process highlighting different stages of the journey.
2009 Beginnings of the buck from the full scale 2D dimensional drawings Buck completed Metal fabrication begins We roll the buck with the panels mounted outside and stand way back to get a look see to determine if any of the body lines need adjustment. It was around 2013 when R2 went into storage.(This photo is dated 2019...overall photos of the car weren't released until this year) Time to finish her up. After about 4 years R2 comes out of storage. As it turned out, when the car came back into the shop the doors, front and rear fascias and interior compartment had some pretty dramatic changes applied. The exterior panels were not permanently installed until all the mechanicals were completed. Body is prepped for epoxy and high build primer. LS6 mated to a Porsche G50 Transaxle. Custom half shafts had to be created. Electrical harnesses needed to be modified and lengthened. First parking lot shakedown. The trim pieces are still being 3D printed/finished as well as the installation of a new clutch master cylinder. But aside from that the car is ready for the street. We have a few videos on iNVision's YouTube channel if you are interested in hearing the car run(more videos are coming). I would like to thank everyone for following along with this build over the years. Cheers!
