Die Filer
When I was at the Dixieland gathering this year I bought an old die filer that Kerry had. Cleaned it up and bought some new file for it. Wanted something that could be used to speed up the make of dies for the Pullmax type machines. The machine has variable speed and stroke length adjustments, really nice machine. Here are some pictures of the machine and files that I bought.
File that I have for the machine. Here is a picture of the first set of dies made using the machine.

Joe,
the machine is smaller then I expected! I take it that the machine must run very smoothly, did it knock off the spray cans? did you use the machine the whole way to make the dies or did you just use it to clean it up? how long did it take and how many dies can you make before it wears out the file? Really cool!

The machine does run fairly smooth after changing the belts. The is some shaking at high speed but than might go away once I build a base for it. Can't tell you about the life of the files yet. The file are getting hard to fine and the only decent ones are made in India today. They probably are not as good as the old American made file that I found, but they are all larger size file. I used them mostly to cleanup, made the rough cut on the mill. Some of the dies can also be roughed out on a band saw. The machine may look small but I can't pick it up by myself.

Very nice machine, I am sure it would be very handy, very occasionally for me!
Another forum I frequent sometimes had a link to a place that had files: http://www.victornet.com/subdepartme...ml?id=TzmenX8s I hope this is of some use.

You just took me on a trip back to 1970 or so. We made a lot of extrusion dies back then.....no cnc.......drill out what you could .. get the endmills and the the die filler to get it to the line...amaseing how close you could come. tip the table to make the back side a little larger..great find Joe ...i think the file sets are still at work and know one has any idea what they are for.. machine is long gone...Barry L

Mike, I did buy two of all the files that Victor sells. Will probably buy a couple of more sets, they are American made and nos.
Barry, The file at the place where you work are probably American made and still good. Good files for these machines are getting hard to fine.
