Ran out of 1100 rod *&^#@#%*
I thought sure there was more in the big rack. Nope. Shut down and drove to my welding supply store before they closed. Told the counter guy I wanted aluminum TIG wire 1/16 1100.
"1100 whuts dat? We got 4043 lunian." the counter guy said. (apologies for the redneck dialect to the non English speaking members...you had to be there) "I've bought it here for years. Are you sure?" I replied. "Assolutey" He said. "Well crap. What do I need to do? Order it from the internet?" "Guess so." So I left. I know the owner but he was traveling. Tomorrow he's going to get an earful. Not because they quit carrying it but because the punk didn't even offer to get me a box. If anyone wonders why businesses are losing market to the internet? This, right here, is why! I think I can get some at Airgas tomorrow. If not, I'll order it online.

The Brits just shave off a thin slice of parent metal. What was "lunian" supposed to represent??

It's a bastartization of 'Aluminum'. Yeah, I can do that but my hands feed the 'rod' better.

When you look for a brand, a size, a flavor, whatever. You can't find what you are looking for. I no longer accept what they want me to accept. I get on the internet. It's the retailers loss. I was at a Ford dealer today looking for a transmission gasket for a '69 Ranger. I'm told it's on backorder and they could it for me in January. After wasting half a day I found out it's been discontinued. So I made one.

Well, no one in Huntsville or even in Birmingham stocks it. Got 10 lbs which is probably a lifetime supply on the way from Weldingsupply.com.

You may not know that the reason American's say aluminum instead of aluminium is because of a secretary at a large foundry misspelled it. Besides...yall talk funny
The secretary worked for Alcoa and the event was the grand opening of the Massena, New York reduction facility. She has made up the invitation master and had all of the invitation printed. When the mistake was discovered it was to late to get everything redone so they went out with the spelling mistake. The Massena, NY plant was the first aluminum reduction facility built for mass production in the US. Edited by Joe Hartson

ya, but in a pinch... if Kent can weld aluminum with a cutting torch surely you can use a square rod vs a round one

Kerry: Try some electric fence wire. I don't know the alloy but it does torch weld nicely. It may in fact be 1100. Anybody know?
