I completely forgot that I made a little more progress.

The tailgate had to be retained level with the bed floor, but still had to be able to swing all the way down and be removable without any tools.

I tried three different types of mounts for both chain and cable. The cable didn't rock my boat, so I settled on the chain.

I made a mock up first and then made 2 proper parts.

Also had to find a way to mount a chain to a bed that were never intended to have a chain. On the other side of this bolt is the drop-lock. Two birds with one stone!

Please ignore the little tab under the bed rail. It no longer exists. Like I said, 3 different mounts tried!

The retainers are left open at the bottom to ensure nothing gets trapped and interferes with the chain. It is 2.6mm steel box section, so it will be more than strong enough.

I will upload more pics of the finished tailgate tomorrow if I remember to take it!
