Default 32 Ford roof insert

A new friend asked me to help him with a roof insert for a 32 Ford 2dr Sedan.

They had purchased a Volare station wagon top. It was pretty obvious that the Volare was fairly flat front to back but when they put it into the hole for the insert and pulled it down for the curve of the Deuce it raised up on the sides about an inch.

Unfortunately my camera battery died and I didn't get any photos of the process.

Basically we shrunk the sides until it fit down in the channel and didn't have any humps. Then we blended the roof to remove any lows. Finally we stretched the entire length of the sides to reduce the crown.

Most the work was done on the Eckold and the big ewheel. There was one high spot that we couldn't reach with the Eckold and we used the shrinking disk.

I'm going over to his house Friday night and I'll take some photos.

It would probably have been faster to just make a new one using new metal and all wheel work.

I never did take any photos of the car and the owner, Larry Holmes, died suddenly shortly thereafter. His son contacted me recently for some other work and told me the car had been featured in the February 2014 Street Rodder and I actually got a mention. I can die happy now, some of my shaping was in a magazine.

Here is a link to the online version of the article:

The car came out great and I'm pleased that I had a very small part in it.

Nice work Kerry. I love anything with a hemi in it. The name Nutmeg metallic is a cool name for paint.

Kerry,

A great looking beasty and I really like the way it sits and looks - a classic rod with attitude that looks mean even standing still.

Such a shame that Larry didn't see the finished result but I'm sure he would be proud!

Very nice job, as it all comes together very nicely.
Kudos, Kerry.
