Scott White is a professor of 3D graphics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Jim Hery's shop is in Belfast, Tennessee and I am from Rock Hill, S.C.. Every once in a while we all meet at Jims and prepare the cars for and do the scanning. Scott takes the 3D scan 'cloud' home and cleans it up and emails it to me in an .iges format. I have been able to open this file up in SolidWorks, and making section cuts in the .prt file, I am able to make an exact 'sketch' of the panel contour at that point and save it as a parasolid file. Then re-open it up again as a SolidWorks .prt file, and make a .dwg file and then save that file as a .dxf file. I can then email it to the water jet guy, and he cuts it/them.

Kudos
Great work Will, Jim and Scott. Exactly what I am trying to do for my new roadster project. Only a few laps behind you. Good luck, but then again, with all of your skills, you guys don't need luck.

Beautiful work, if you had a problem with comparing the shape and details. It's seen a lot of cars in Europe at the Museum of Mulhouse in France. For connoisseurs it is for the first time all day.Parking was more expensive than a museum visit. Because of the long time that I was there. Seeing it's beautiful.

Here are some more photos of the work done on the T57 Bugatti front fender at the Route56 metal shaping meet in Minnesota.

Looks like a load of fun, Will. Is the 7up used as a solvent or a hardener?

LOL. It was a pay-off for all the hard work that Jim did on the buck.
