Default Hand held belt sander

I have a Harbor Freight electric powered belt sander the one with the 1/2” wide belt. It is just too light to do some serious grinding. While working on the ‘33 Chevy project I needed to grind down some welds on the firewall. The 1/2” wide belt was too short to reach the area needing grinding. So I modified the 1/2” belt sander to do the job.
I selected the 30” by 1” belt because they are available and reasonably priced. They also are available in a variety of grits. All parts with the exception of the drive drum were removed from the side grinder base. I fabricated the necessary parts from 1/2” by 1/8” flatbar,1/2” x1/2” square tube and 3/8” key stock for the main parts.
Here are a couple of pictures. If there is any interest, I will be happy to provide more details.
Right now the pictures are in my album.
