Something I have been thinking about..
Has anyone ever done this?? I have been thinking of putting my bumpers behind the fenders of my 37 Ford. I like the looks of having no bumpers, but feel it may be safer if there were bumpers there. I was going to mount the brackets as far in as I can. Even if I shorten the front, and rear horns some. The bumper could then be bolted under them. in the front, and behind a rolled pan that I would also like to learn how to make.. Al

Haven't placed them behind, ...
I have however, sectioned then welded the bumper to the fender/gravel-pan. It cleans up the sometimes excessive space the bumper is placed away from the body. It doesn't allow for any accidents, (impacts/wrecks) without doing alot more damage to an extended area of the body. It does look alot better.

I wouldn't think that moving the bumper behind the sheet metal would make much difference from a safety standpoint. If you hit something, it's going to mess the sheet metal up, then hit the hidden bumper. The old way is just the opposite, bumper first, then the sheet metal. If the bumpers are basically the same, I don't see much difference.

See. My bumpers are BUTT UGLY.. They would cost $435 per to have them re plated. By putting them behind the fenders.. I wouldn't have to see them. I could just paint them. Then shave the bumper openings, but still have some protection.. Al

It's a 37 don't run no bumpers.37s have the nicest grill,be a shame to hide any of it.If you don't run bumpers in the front you won't run them in the rear.

Johnny.. The bumpers would be behind the fenders, and the rolled pan in the rear.. ( if there is enough space)
