Default CP planisher

Years ago I built a CP clone as part of a project from , I believe, Metalmeet. Someone cut the arms and we all bought the head assemblies from Michigan Pneumatic. That head is the long body. I love my machine but I would like to have a short body machine to supplement it for better smoothing (particularly on aluminum) with only minor shaping. Is there a similar body for the short stroke machine? Is it a totally different set up?

Hi Rick
The hand held CP uses the short stroke. The bore dia. Is the same, so I think you might be able to make some adapters and use the short stroke in your large frame.
I have not tried this, but would be worth checking out.
Michigan pneumatic is selling both long and short new motors.

That would probably have been the Jay Hayes kits. Depending on how you built the frame, it will fit but the linkage will need an adapter because the motor is about 1 1/2" shorter. Also the tooling will be in a different height so you'll need to either make a riser or move your tool arms.

Rick, the short stroke bodies are completely different so the only practical way to do it is build a second hammer frame that mounts the hand held head. Years ago I tried a short barrel in the long stroke body. It really never worked right for several reasons . ~ John Buchtenkirch
