Steel thumbnails don't work as well on aluminum as the phenolic ones do because of the marking and how easily the aluminum stretches.

Other brands work well on aluminum, but I haven't had much chance to do a lot of aluminum work either.

That being said, I don't concern myself much with tooling marks anyhow.

I have used these steel dies on aluminum for years as I wasn't concerned about the small amount of marking they left. As I had projects that I wanted to leave unpainted or polished I started using the plastic dies as there were hardly any marks to finish out. I have had some customers who were having trouble shrinking aluminum when they were not adjusting the shut heighth or gap correctly. If not tightened enough they won't set the tuck so no shrink or if too tight the will stretch it back out.
So yes the steel dies will shrink aluminum just fine. I once did all the shrinking for a half scale one piece track roadster nose in less that 1 hour. Parts of top were shrunk 8" deep. I knew I had done some work when I was through! But I won the bet!!

I use my steel ones on aluminum all the time and they work great. I own the plastic ones but have only used them twice.

Would the these fit a nibbler senior? If so I am very interested in both the steel and plastic dies!

Mike, Stan sells the dies with and without posts. That way he doesn't have to make a different die for each type of nibbler. I don't know if he sells Nibbler brand round shank stems or not but you can certainly call and ask.
