Hammerform for rear door jamb / B-pillars for 1938 BMW 327. This is a continuation from the other posts regarding the fabrication of these complex parts. The hammerform is made of solid maple covered with 14 gauge steel. The part is being made of .037" sheet metal, the same thickness as the original part. It's cut slightly oversize and registered on the hammerform. A center punch is used to locate the 3 holes that need to be drilled to accommodate the bolts that secure the wood blocks that prevent the metal from shifting. A plastic mallet is used to manipulate the sheet metal down over the edges. A Goose-neck planishing hammer with a rounded end is used for the next stage to move the metal down and into the stepped flanges. A sharper bullnose corking tool is then used to chase the bottom creases of the flanges. I then made a set of edging dies and ran the part though the power hammer to smooth all of the bends.
