We need to remember that back in the day standards for everything were different!
Houses had no insulation
Windows and doors had no weather strips
Cars had no radio
No outside mirrors
No heater
No a/c
Vacuum wipers
Manual brakes
Manual steering
Manual crank Windows

I bet the average consumer of a jeep was thrilled that it finally had doors, windows, and a metal roof.

If the doors opened, closed, and the window rolled up and down, it was perfect!!

Functional and utilitarian, just transportation or load hauler

Steve, you hit the nail on the head! Those Jeeps were functional and utilitarian and most of all inexpensive. Marcus' project is definitely cool!

Top of the A pillar now which can be lined up with the front of the door window frame. Also notice that the lower part of the windscreen to cowl joint is going to need some work with the 2" section already cutout in between.


Started to hammered the cowl back, all off dolly, as didn't want to stretch the top edge at all. I'm am collapsing an arc inwards, so needs to shrink if anything, to move that way.


Had to make sure that the angle didn't change at all as you can't twist glass to fit. Strain on the glass seal will cause leaks as well.


Flows quite well I think.


Not happy with the top angling up so high and wanted it to match the shallower rear angle. I supported the corner so the pillar angle didn't change before attempting to bring it down.


Placed a block of timber on top before giving it a few quick raps with a lead filled rubber mallet. Now matches the angle of the rear wall exactly. Total rise is 1/4" and not flat like you would think these to be. Water will drain now to the front outside corners where the drain cutouts in the gutter are. I had also set the roof skins up with the same rise front and rear when sectioning around the perimeter and wheeling up the new centre.

You have made this old girl an art object. I drove them back in late 60's and early 70's trying to decide which I wanted. I got one up to a muddy trail and found out why they weren't that popular. A CJ front end and a wagon rear end at least that is what I was told. I got to the top and turned around and looked back down the trail and had 4 ruts coming up the hill. This has been a great thread to watch and you are an artist.

Ha ha, bit far but did keep an eye out for possible parts or a future project. Wife found one for me but shipping a vehicle from Amenia was a bit prohibitive I would image!

She wanted me to turn this into a delivery for her and do something similar to the Willys for the drivetrain.
