Metalshaping in the North Woods
Hi everyone,
I will again be hosting a metalshaping meet at my shop this fall, assuming the COVID issues retreat sufficiently by then. October 1, 2 and 3. That is the weekend right before the Oblong meet starts. Cumberland, WI Please let me know who is interested so I can plan appropriately.

When I first decided to hold this event I was assuming that this whole COVID issue would be cleared up by the time I held the event. Clearly, I was wrong and it will continue to be with us for a while yet. I am a little nervous about holding this event given the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. However, for now the meet is still on. Several of you have posted your intention to attend, given all that has happened recently, would you each please re-confirm with a brief post. if your plans change, just keep me informed. There will be no hard feeling if you must cancel at the last minute - things are volatile right now.
I think everyone needs to be responsible for their own actions and health. If you attend you need to agree that I am not responsible if you get sick - or worse. If I get sick, I will not blame you. But if I hold this and then you get sick, I will still feel really bad. If you have underlying conditions that make COVID a significant threat to you, please DO NOT plan to attend. In the two weeks preceding the event, if you find that you have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID, please DO NOT attend. And if you are not feeling well, or have any symptoms related to COVID, please do not attend. All of that should be obvious. I don't want to be the PPE cop, but if you attend, please bring a mask. I don't anticipate needing masks most of the time since work stations are generally spread out far enough, but we sometimes gather to watch a demonstration and then masks will be mandatory. In the past few years the weather has been good enough that some of you set up work stations outside, and I really hope we are able to do this again. I plan to keep the doors to the shop open in order to keep fresh air flowing through, but this means that it might be chilly in the shop, so sweatshirts or light jackets would probably be a good idea for all. For hotels, in the past I think most stayed at the AmeriVu in Cumberland. That hotel has since been sold and is no longer being operated as a hotel. The two other hotels in Cumberland are less than wonderful and I have a hard time recommending them. Shell Lake, Spooner, and Rice Lake are all within 20 miles and between the three they should provide quite a few hotels choices.

Meet is cancelled!
I'm sorry guys, but I feel that I should cancel this event. Cumberland has recently become a COVID hot spot with nearly 10% of the local population contracting the disease. I think that inviting outsiders into this environment is a really bad idea right now. Let's all hope next year will be better!
