Newbie from NZ
Hi All, Andy here from New Zealand, found this site by accident when looking for info on Ewheels, am currently restoring a 1936 chev pick up and need to repair the rear guards.
Congradulations on an excellent site.

Welcome Andy, we have several members from your hemisphere at least. Actually I believe we have a couple Kiwis and several Aussies.
They'll pipe up soon.

thanks
Thanks Kerry,
Made a stump last night, and have just ordered Davids DVD, and am off to the shed to try and make a mallet on the lathe, (not many baseball bats over here and I don't think a cricket bat would make a good replacement). My wife is begining to think she has become a shed widow....

Welcome aboard Andy. You get the stump and mallet sorted out, and "shed widow" will know exactly where you are
You'll also find some good short footage on youtube. I believe Davids DVD is pretty informative, and will have to order myself a copy also. Shrapnel |

Ok here are some pics
This is the stump and mallet I made, this week, I've incorporated the channel that Johnny Arial posted about on 'improving my stump' the dish and channel were made with a chainsaw and 5" grinder. The mallet is the mk2 version.. Mk1 suffered from catastrophic failure when fitting the handle. These are 3 of my chevs, My goal is to fabricate the rear guards for the 1936 (foreground), flatten the hood ( was blasted by the previous owner and is now wavy), repair the doors and and cab corners where some one has replaced the rolled beaded edge with 6mm (1/4") solid bar that looks hideous.

Let me know what you think about that extra hollow you made.
I still have not added mine. Since your hammer broke, make it bigger next time so you don't have to swing as hard Thanks for the pictures and welcome aboard

Thanks for the pic's Andy. Love the pick-up's. Did you use a baseball bat to make your mallet ? Stump looks good too.

mallet
I turned the mallet down on my wood lathe, it was from a piece of hard wood thats been kicking around in the shed for years, the handle was from a broken maddock (grubber) this is the mk2 mallet, the mk 1 version split as I 'gently' fitted the handle but that was a weaker wood.
