Default 2011 Dixieland meet at Kerry's September 13-18

Dixieland2011.jpg

It's that time of year again. I am apparently not going to die this year after all so we'll go ahead and schedule our annual meet.

The dates this year are September 13-18 which is a Tuesday through Sunday, if folks want to come a day early that's fine.

Unfortunately we will be limited on space and therefore will probably have to limit attendees to about 50. Priority will be given to those who have attended before and RSVPs will be needed.

If you want to attend, please let me know the days you will be here so we can fit as many folks as possible. If you cancel later that's fine but if you think you want to come let me know by posting here or PMing me.

Don't have any projects determined at this point. We probably have room for one large project and some smaller ones. My roadster will be here but should be out of the metalshaping stages at that point. This year I'll plan on having the roadster outside under a canopy because most the metal shaping should be finished. I hope to have it street legal but I'm not sure when I can get back to full speed health wise. I should have the White COE body & chassis that we could work on.

If you have a project you want to bring, PM or contact me to be sure we'll have room for it.

Depending on turnout, I may ask folks who have never attended a metal shaping gathering before not to bring a project unless it's pretty small.

Weather in mid-September should still be mild to warm but we have both heat and AC in the main rooms.

Lodging in every price range from every chain you can think of is in Huntsville about 14 miles away and we have plenty of room for camping. If you're bringing a big camper (larger than 1 ton truck chassis) please contact me first. We have limited room of very heavy vehicles...especially if it is wet. Bring your own power cords. I'll post motel info down the road and see if I can't get a group rate if there is enough interest. Some of the folks who have stayed in motels at previous events may want to offer their opinions of where they stayed.

My son has a basement with two large rooms and a full bath that he is willing to make available for folks during the Dixie Meet September 13-18. Price is $100 per person for the whole time or part time. In other words 1 day or 7 days for the same $100.

There are three couches (first come) or bring your own cot/air mattress and linens/towels. The rooms all have central AC and you'll have a private entrance. There is also a small dorm size fridge. Sorry, no TV. There will probably be several people in each room so if you're looking for privacy, this ain't it. If you're looking for somewhere to crash and shower while you're not beating on metal, this might save you a few bucks.

It's about 5 miles from my shop.

If you are interested, please PM me and I'll put you in touch with Cameron.

We have some new businesses in the area. We have a new McDonalds in addition to a Publics grocery with a Deli, a Subway (now serving breakfast), Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Country Cooking, and brand new Greek restaurant. All this is within 2-3 miles....civilization is encroaching on our once peaceful existence. Hundreds of restaurants in Huntsville.

We're pretty well equipped for tools but could probably use another TIG and MIG if the turnout gets large. I've got plenty of ewheels.

I've got a 10x20 awning with sides put will probably put the roadster under it. If you've got one and room to bring it, we can set it up outside for some additional space. Tables are also going to be in short supply as will beater bags, stands, bat hammers etc.

Huntsville (HSV) has a good airport for anyone who wants to fly in.

Pencil me in for the whole thing.......hopefully I'll have enough vacation time left after being forced to take 2 weeks off in July. I will, most likely, be bringing a guest

Becky and I would like to come down this year! Not sure if I can swing the whole event, the kids are in school/fall sports but I will be down the 15th-on for sure! (btw: the 15th is Becky's Birthday)

Other than Becky's copper projects, I wont be bringing anything other than the tear-drop and willingness to work on someone else's project.

If Dan brings his COE and you get your cab ready we could split into teams and see who gets more done

Kerry: I can bring the 4 TuckPuck® workstations that I use for Sun'n Fun and the five TuckPuck Mallets that we use there as well. Would you want me to make a couple of stands for the work stations? Or will there be table space for those?

Kerry,
I'll be here, probably the entire time. Can bring my TIG, it's the small TIG like you have.
If you have room, I'll like to bring a hood down to pie cut...Eric
