British Patent Drawings: Where?
Hi all,
Another question as I work on the Barton 7 book. Does anyone know a GOOD site where I can plug in a British Patent number and see the patent application, and the illustration? I've tried about a dozen sites that claim to do this, but none that actually do. Thanks for all leads.

Bill, have you tried going direct to the Patent Office?
https://www.gov.uk/government/organi...roperty-office If they can't help, I suspect you'd have to employ the services of a Patent Attorney who could carry out the searches for you but obviously there would be a cost implication. Hope that helps. Gareth

I don't have a patent-number to test it, but this site (European Patent Office) may work:

Regretfully, Gareth and Andy, I tried both of those yesterday. American patents are easy to find on Google Patents.
The UK government patent sites, which claim to offer a free service, don't really. I'm trying to locate a patent from 1916 (application) which was granted in 1917.

Just use Google Patents. It will find all.
Type something in the search box such as "sheet metal forming" or what you think you are searching for. Then when the page opens, choose the country you want at the bottom of the left page panel GB. And the date just above that and etc. You might find that some of the early patents had no drawings.

Just did a search for "sheet metal smoothing" GB for the country.
Result: https://patents.google.com/patent/GB191112790A/en GB 1911 12790A country year patent no.

I'm trying to be authoritative with what I write about in Barton Book 7 so am trying to locate original sources, like patents.

Thanks Jens. I was finally able to track down the patent info I needed with the help of Hartmut Eckold, the son of the founder of the Eckold company. I'm nearly finished with the manuscript for Book 7 now.
