Default any use a Harbor Freight Compact Bender-Hossfeld knockoff ?

HF compact bender.jpgHi

I was just wondering if anyone has used the HF Hossfeld knock-off bender,

if so what do you need to use to really make it work,
what add-ons does it need ?

and How does the scroll bender work ?

the guy down the street has one he bought and used once , I can get it for $50 , but have no idea how it works or if there is anything missing,
http://www.harborfreight.com/compact-bender-38470.html

I tried looking on youtube but did not find much

thanks for any info......Dave

I have one purchased and Tractor Supply. The brand name on mine is Clark, but it looks the same only red. I use it alot. I like it. The heaviest I've bent in it was 5/8 solid cold rolled. It was pushing it and I think it bent one pin a little, but it worked. It's well worth the money.

I've never bent scrolls, and I'm not sure what you mean "what to use to really make it work". The manual that comes with it is very good so try to get that. It's more than likly on the HF website.
Edit: Here is the manual. It gives you a good idea what you can do with the bender.

with all HF stuff there seems to be a few things that are just not right and need beefing up etc......
that was the question

Thanks

I have used one of these for a specific project once upon a time, and as long as you follow the directions and stay within thier suggested guidelines, it will work as well as you could ask for. Its just that for some reason we are always wanting to bend something bigger or larger :-)

It is a good tool, needs little if any improvment out of the box.

I just bought a hossfeld bender. I'm looking forward to using it. I will have to do some studying on the matter. This is my first bender.

Default bender

hi jim, I have a #2 hossfield , purchased brand new in 1976. it is on a custom stand and powered with a hydra, set-up of approx 2 times the power of the factory unit. it is used mostly for bending chro moly round tubing, and it has performed flawlessly since new. i know you will love it. jim p @ metalfab

I’d say the biggest problem with that Hossfeld clone is that it isn’t a Hossfeld, so therefore it’s doubtful if all of Hossfeld’s very extensive selection of dies & tooling will fit it……. correct me if I may be wrong. On the other hand for only a 50 dollar bill you should be able to pay for it by using it on only one good job……. so how could you go wrong . ~ John Buchtenkirch

That Harbor Freight bender is a direct copy of a bender that was made by a company called Lock Down Securities. That company is now called Shop Outfitters. They are located a bit south of Denver. They've upgraded their original bender (which was a fine tool). The Hossfeld is a much bigger machine.

Anyway, if you need to make brackets, hooks, rings etc. $50 is a good price for a so so copy of a nice little bender.
