Default Old Style Welding Helmet

I've never really made anything out of sheet metal that stands alone, usually only patch panels which all have been pretty basic. I like the industrial look of the old style welding hoods, so I gave it a try. This is 20ga, I rolled the face portion with my Peck Stow And Wilcox roller.I bead rolled the edges on the top and bottom so the other pieces would be flush. I tried to make the top 1 piece, but I couldn't get it to shrink enough and be flush around where it mounted to the face piece. To get the curves on the top and bottom, I beat the pieces out and used my homeade planishing hammer to smooth them out.

I like the idea, too, it looks great! I might like a little padding for my collar bones, though.

Nice work Ckad.

Looks like you TIG welded the piece or was it O/A?

Now that you've made that first one and understand what the final piece looks and feels like, try making the top piece in one piece. Do you have a shrinker or did you use the tuck method?

All tools are a hammer except the chisel.....That's a screwdriver.

I actually mig welded it.I do have an eastwood chinese shrinker, but after a couple times shrinking the top upside down "v" piece broke, I am a firm believer of... you get what you pay for. So I went to the tuck method.

Yeah I don't really plan on using it, the scale is a tad too big, even though I do have a big head
