Almost a foot, but I don't have as far to fall.

Rounded end plate on top, and legs weld on (but can also screw in, so can be shipped....)
Yes - top plate is one inch cast steel ....
Been meaning to offer this stand for some time .... other things took priority.
Thanks, Kent. I wondered if the rounded top was cast steel or more correctly kasteel like my Beverly Frame and how the legs are connected to both the top and to each other to allow reasonable shipping. The top and the functional height are important details to me.

buying a new factory stand would be great but is probably not in the budget, especially to immediately modify it as I'm planning. Finding a used original one is a long shot. We'll see. So building one makes more sense.

AC there is a picture of the stand that I fabricated for my shear on the third page of my album. I can pass you the measurements if you like. I placed my shear so that the leaver is above the single leg. The leg extends out to be under the leaver handle also I can stand close to the work with just one leg to deal with.

Mine is just like the photo that Kent posted. Even the same color. The back of the 'iron' is 7 1/2" and the length is 11. The rear footprint is 23" and the distance from a straight line from rear leg to rear leg and the front leg is 27" The rear legs are 1 1/2" tube and are 30" long. The front leg is 33" long.

Mike & Kerry- that's all specific information that I wanted to know. I thought function may be better with the single leg extending under long handle. Figured I would try it both ways if no one offered an opinion.

Thank you very much, everyone.

Beverly does not sell stands anymore. Just got some parts from them and a catalog, it had pic of stand and said discontinued.
