Default 356 restoration

hi, to all the very talented people on this forum that give time, knowledge and encouragement to us with not so much talent!

I bought a 63 Porsche 356 coupe that arrived in my possession a few months ago. I have started a restoration thread on the 356 registry mainly for my best mate back in the uk to follow and to the guy I bought it from in the states.

here is the link to that thread:- http://forum.porsche356registry.org/...hp?f=4&t=35582

I get a couple of hours a night after I finish work to spend on it and weekends. I'm a panel beater by trade working in the accident repair side of it, and this is the worst car I have done (doing) but not by much!

obviously I am open to ideas from you guys to make this as easy as possible and improve my skill base. I did meet peter tommassini a few months ago at his shop along with Jeffery (gonejunking) great guys! and this is that 356 I mentioned

Good job Neil.

Plenty of work on that puppy.

I would find it challenging and addictive.

Neil
I have been following your story on the 356 Registry forum. I too am working on a 63 T6, story on abcgt.com under restoration topics.

its been a while since i started this thread but here goes!

i am ready to start the outer panels now, i have had a couple of attempts at a 1/4 panel and got better with each try. i called in to see peter tommasini and ask for advise as although its not bad i know it could be better!

here is the 3rd attempt...

i had trouble with doing the top piece in one go so i cut it and tig'd it together. although its not too bad peter did give me some good advice and a few tips using the wheel.

so i left peter's on saturday and headed for the workshop to have another go, this time moving the weld joint to a more suitable place and doing the top piece in one go...

so i marked off where it would roughly join...

then had a go with a rather large piece that was a little hard to handle with my disability...

its a lot closer now but still needs a little work to get it correct, but thank you again peter

Good going Neil,
That's a very ambitious double reverse panel to make, I couldn't do it myself in 1 piece and I'd probably move the joint up a little higher to try and make it easier, but there are lots of ways I guess.
Really looking forward to see how it all comes together and nice to see what you've tried and improved on, we all learn from this.

You are making a very good effort. Keep going! It will be great to see this come together and on the car. Will be a real triumph for you.
