Default Austin Healey

Hi David,
May I suggest you purchase a DVD from Ron Covell web site www.covell.biz
the title is building a wodden buck from scratch this will really assist you.
Because of the shape of the guard and the return on the inside it will be almost impossible to achieve to an excellent standard without a wodden buck.
The buck is not hard to complete if you follow Ron's video
You have started with a very difficult car mudguard/fender- Healey's can be a problem.
I have a BJ7 Healey 3000 and have hand made the Panels . Often the completed panels need extra work and fitting so you are doing the right thing and cheaper
Peter Tomassini in Melbourne was of great assistance to me when I commenced.( he has made a post on your project- Great bloke as well)
In short by using a wodden Buck constructed from the existing guard and following Convell instruction of the buck it will be a breeze. It can be made in sections and then welded in tac position and later complete the welding.
Help is only a call away- Keep me posted

Hi Denis
Thanks for the feedback much appreciated.
I have the Ron Covell DVD which you mentioned.
I also have all of Peter Tomassini's DVD's.

In Peters DVD on the building of the Monaro rear quarter. He uses only a paper pattern and profile gauges of the outside surface.
I tend to follow Peters methods more then anyone else.
Peter just seems to make the process simple and understandable.
I just connect with his methods more the anyone.

So I just took a paper pattern of the guard, and made profile gauges of the outside surfaces that I thought would be problematic or had rapid change in shape.

I think wooden bucks would be great
But I only have a three car garage, with the Austin Healey, a Jaguar E-type and a Porsche boxster in it (I like European sports cars) and my work space.
So if I make a buck every time I want to make a major part for the Healey or Jag I would be out of space real quick
The paper pattern and surface profiles seem to be working so far
Perhaps sometime in the future I may try a buck.
I may come onto something on one of the cars I can't do any other way.
