Default Austin 7 Special - not my work

I have a very talented friend and mentor who around his fantastic customer work (Ferarris, Hot Rods, a Cologne Capri replica and various Warbirds) is building an Austin 7 Special. I'm really interested in his buck development and then the panel shaping techniques. He has agreed to let me post pictures of his progress. Overall shape is going to be 'Silver Arrow' ish. Period front driven supercharger and mega stressed 800cc lump.

Thanks for posting that. I've got a soft spot for Austin 7 specials. I used to own a Brooks Sussex Special from '51. It was one of one.

There was an epic vintage race here last year Bill. Lots of different cars, so a handicap start. Near last away was a giant Bentley Lagonda. After about 8 laps with 2 to go, the Lagonda, an 8c Alfa Monza and an Austin 7 special caught the main pack. The diminutive Austin 7 speared past the Alfa, then the Lagonda, barely coming up to it's axle height. It went on to take the race. Turns out it was a mega original and priceless Works Le Mans car. Running a blower twice the size of the engine and methanol. Idled at about 2000 rpm and sounded very angry - smelt great too! Pretty sure that was the inspiration for this build.

I'll post more as Mike progresses with the build.

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

My thoughts exactly guys! I try to ration my visits to Mike so as not to hold up his billable work. There is always something interesting going on and he is such a talent and giving individual. If you have a moment, you should check out his facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/HammerWorks

I see he has just posted some pictures of the Cologne Capri replica he is building for a customer. Be sure to check out his aluminium masquerade ball mask. He is very low key, as he has 2 or 3 'mini Jay Leno' type customers who keep him buried with work. Thankfully I have a couple of bits of gear that he doesn't have, so occasionally can do a contra to try and even things up. I'm sure there will be many calls to Mike as I get myself into trouble with the bodywork for the BMW!

Sorry Kerry, I missed responding to this. Yes will be a circuit/hillclimb only car. Supercharged by many psi and probably running methanol Mike thinks it will only weigh around 300kgs...
