Shear questions
I’m looking at 2 foot/stomp type shears on an auction. One it labeled as a squaring foot shear and the other just a foot shear. Both rated for 16 gauge mild steel. My question is, what’s the difference between a squaring and a regular foot shear. Google didn’t come up with much to help answer. TIA

My suspicion is they are basically the same. it is how well they do the fence 90 degrees to blade . All the stomp shears I have used all had a fence on at least one side. you said 2 ft. ? never seen stomp shear 2 ft. 3 ft. yes.

Personally if I were you I’d hold out for a shear that cut at least 48”, the width of a full sheet. Some people might consider it a squaring shear only if it has a back-gauge not that you couldn't cut a sheet square without one. In a production shop an accurate back-gauge is almost a must have. ~ John Buchtenkirch

Sorry that wasn’t suppose to mean a 2 foot long stomp shear, meant to say 2 different foot shears. they are 52” and the other is 60” long. They labeled them as foot shears. I always knew them as a stomp shear. I kind of figured the same as you both. Not a whole lot of difference.
