I know this thread is old, but as a sticky, prob read quite a bit.
My take on using a gloved hand or paper towel is that, it’s good to try it both ways to get a feel for the panel. Sometimes the texture of the panel lies to your senses, this is where a towel or glove can help. Kind of like a new set of eyes for your hands. The temperature of the panel can trick you, if you’re using any heat creating meathods for straightening. Dust, and primer / no primer spots, can trick you, as well. Use what works, and don’t be afraid to try something new. Your final results will tell you.

Tinman Technologies has many vixen files from 7T to 20T. Which would you all suggest works the best for this process?
