Default Howdy Folks!

Greetings from Paso Robles, California!

My name is Geoff and I have a problem. Ever since attending the Pebble Beach Concourse D'Elegance in 2009 I have had an increasing desire to learn quality automotive restoration techniques.

I am currently "flipping" a couple of cars for sale, neither requiring a vast amount of fabrication. I have a 1966 Ford Mustang and a 1970 Plymouth Cuda. Both have a bit of rot but in both cases repair pieces are readily available and it is mostly a matter of drilling out spot welds and replacing the bad sections.

I purchased David Gardiner's DVD many moons ago and realized that with practice and tutoring I could truly embark on this journey.Through a contact in town I was introduced to a local craftsman that specializes in early Porsche restoration, race conversions as well as prototype engineering.

After many months of throwing myself at the poor Swiss man he finally agreed to take me on as a sort of apprentice one day a week (hopefully pushing him into more!). So far, I have fabricated parts for a RS60 and have helped out replacing a caved in roof on a 356 Coupe race car.

I keep embarrassing myself telling him that my time there is like Christmas morning except it lasts all day!

I hope I will eventually have something of interest to offer the board. Until then, I shall lurk and continue to steal tidbits of information from all of those that choose to share the wisdom of the ages!

Geoff

P.S. David, once you decide to put together a volume 2 I will gladly film and edit it for you (kind of a hobby of mine) you just need to fly me over!

Geoff, welcome to the site. You will learn quickly if you have someone to actually show you how things are done. Just remember that there are a lot of ways to accomplish the same thing. Whatever works for you is correct. Thanks for joining us.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for joining us, so much help here, just ask.

Like your approach on finding out how its done, there's a shop down the road from me, I'd give them a day a wk, not sure it would work for me though.

There if you don't ask, you don't get.

Cheers
