Started making the plates to cap off the door jamb area. It took longer than I thought it would.
I have to go pick up my grand daughter, I might get back to trim it up later today.

I got the right side capped off. The latch striker used to be all the way up here. I don't know why. I'll be moving it down just below where I seamed the new metal to the original.

Thanks Nick, I've been watching your roadster build. You're moving along quickly. I wish I had better equipment, it would speed up the process a little.

Looking good Jack.
Might hole saw some holes on your buck so you can see through it to better judge the rear panels as they are developing. Jay

I spent some time finishing the shaping of the left side deck skin. I seem to have trouble diagnosing the last 10% of these low crown panels. I don't know what that's all about but it seems like it took me a long time to get an exact fit. Anyway, it lays down flat with no oil canning.

Next is the front gutter. I laid out and cut up a template to make it in two pieces. This would have been a prime candidate for flow forming but I didn't have enough material around for a die so I did it with the bead roller.
On the outer corners there is a very tight radius with a 3/4" flange that can't be done with the bead roller at first because I can't turn corners that tight, so I tipped and stretched the radius with a hammer and T dolly. I laid it over enough by hand so I could smooth it out in the bead roller. Once the flange was tipped I could roll the radius vertically rather than trying to turn a corner horizontally. Obviously, this tight corner and the long curve on the other flange distorted the piece so I stretched both flanges to get the contour I needed.

Still need to tighten up the small radius and bend the part into the right shape. I used a hammer and some 1" round stock to do the final shaping on the small radius, then while still clamped in wood I used shims and clamping pressure to work the distortion out of the panel. Primitive but effective.
I don't know how you guys can finish your panels without leaving any tool marks. I never can. To me, I call it a good day if I didn't leave tool marks on my thumbs. Oh well, grind, sand, primer, paint and it all looks good.

Nice updates there Jack. Really can see some shape to it all now and thanks for sharing how you go about it.
