Chicago Pneumatic made a riveter that shared parts with their planishing hammer but it was super rare. Tom Hanna has one that he has converted into a planishing hammer but he is the only one I know of, possibly another member will step up with some photos of that. Another possibility to owning a reasonable priced CP planishing hammer is to acquire a CP fender hammer and fabricate your own frame, that’s what they did at Grumman Aerospace. ~ John Buchtenkirch

Ed: If you can get it cheap...read that as a few hundred bucks, grab it, refurb it and then sell it. I've got 4 CP-450's, ranging from an 18" throat to 36" throats. A 24" unit, overhauled, coming from ATS or the like, would set someone back well in excess of 15k$. Add a hot dimple kit, and you moved it up another 19k$.
Interestingly, my 18" unit has a taller throat than the 36" units. The 18, and 24's use cast frames, while the 36's are cut from 5" plate stock. Something else that is funny, the 36" units out weigh my 54" nibbler by about 250%, and it has a cast body.

Hi,
I have a CP450 rivet machine. I installed a set of Erco shrink dies and i use it every day. My projects are built out of aluminum and the CP machine works great. I'm interested in seeing photos of your dies. I do a fair amount of aircraft rivet work and I would like to see the factory tooling. I can post pictures if you are interested in my shrink die set up.
