Default Them ring roller dies

It seems obvious to roll/make arches out of round stock, the dies must be grooved to fit a particular diameter. Flat rollers will not work as affectively. Am I right? This question is about the shop outfitters ring roller in particular but can regard a baleigh style ring roller. I just need to be clear.

I've rolled round stock on flat dies in my slip roll. You are correct about the grooves though, it will keep the stock lined up straight when you roll it so it doesn't "corkscrew". You can roll on flat dies though you just have to keep the part aligned vertically... which can be frustrating.

Default ring roller

HI
The other thing about rolling tubing is that all die need to be grooved to fit the tubing or you will flatten the tubing some what. This is a ring roller I built. You can see the dies are for each diameter of round or tubing stock.

Have fun
Tom

Yes, rolling tubing with flats is a different matter.

That's what I thought. It helps to ask professionals. Tom, you have rollers outside a frame, sort of. They are not enclosed. Why is that? I know you pump the jack but do the bottom rollers slide in a slot?

Tom, I just saw your business photo. I've never seen beadrolling like that. The middle finger I especially admire. It was all very good! I would have guessed it was stamped.

Default ring roller

HI Jefffficeffice" />>>
As with tools built different ideas are exposed by looking at many you can come up with one that fits your need. I wanted to remove the work piece without braking down the tool. It works fine for what I do but does loose some strength in the frame. Using a heavier shaft and good frame I can work with the materials I need.
The jack supplies the lift force and there is a guide slot behind the slide so the roller moves up and down in a straight line.
I do not understand the middle finger comment ????

Might have clicked on www.barmetalrods.com There's a middle finger beadrolled on their site, in my signature.

http://www.baremetalrods.com/images/...ork/index.html Tom, here's the link, ninth picture down the page. My sense of humor revolves around dirty jokes, potty mouth jokes, that sort. The other projects are also good in their own way or showing skill.

Default finger

Hi Jeff
That's not my work. If I were that good I would come out of retirement ha ha. I say some people can make tools sing and baremetalrods seems to hit all the right notes. I have built many Bear Roller and dies for them but I just don't have that artistic touch/eye. Here is another guy that has that eye hand coordination thing down.
